[readings fun] reading is

Reading is a very active process. It is true that the writer does a lot of work, but the reader also has to work hard. Reading is still important to me; it’s fundamental, necessary and needed, so let’s endeavor to do our best to take some child in your midst and nurture him with a story; read for yourself for both knowledge and pleasure. READ – your life depends on it! Reading is like providing the mind with nourishment. Knowledge is the food for the mind and soul.

Reading is a necessarily solitary experience?like dying, everyone reads alone?but over the centuries readers have learned how to cultivate that solitude, how to grow it in the least hospitable environments. An experienced reader can lose herself in a good text with anything short of a war going on (and, sometimes, even then)?the horticultural equivalent of growing orchids in a desert. Reading is reading, even if it's done on a computer. Even if it's done on fanfiction.net. Reading is an essential part of learning at university. All courses in all faculties have components which involve reading.

[reading's fun] Children reading books

Reading books is an operation with paper. Playing games on the Web is something else entirely. It is much different than reading a blog. Reading a book is a project with a much larger scope than, say, reading a blog in 2 minutes. Reading books is very different from reading documents . Books are more diffuse, and carry many different forms of information and evidence.

Reading books is also a nice activity of choice when you are in waiting, while traveling, or just an in-between activity to kill boring and enhance moods. I usually take book while going outside, and I think I will spend many time in waiting.

Children are active in choosing the books they read and it is therefore important to understand how the typography in those books influences their choice. Research with typically developing children has shown that they have clear opinions about the typography in their reading materials and that these opinions are likely to influence their motivation to read particular books. Children are not simply attracted to exciting media such as TV and electronic games – they are also turned off reading books.
